Baseball Falls To No. 25 San Diego In Series Finale

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Ryan Schalch went 2-for-4 with three RBI, but No. 25 San Diego completed a sweep over Pacific baseball, 10-4, Saturday. James Free II added a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Tigers picked up seven hits, but the Toreros tallied 10 runs on nine hits for the victory.

The Toreros picked up a run in the second, as Garcia doubled to left center and advanced to third on a fly out. Bewley followed with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 USD lead.

The Tigers posted a four-run third inning as Kyle Soberano singled and after a sacrifice bunt, Kevin Sandri reached on error. Matt Tarantino reached on an infield single to load the bases before Free delivered a single through the right side to tie the game at 1-1. Schalch doubled to center, clearing the bases for a 4-1 Pacific lead.

But San Diego answered with four of their own in the bottom of the third. A walk and a hit-by-pitch put two on with one out, and Jay Schuyler singled to load the bases to set up a grand slam from Riley Adams.

Bailey Hansen entered for the Tigers and posted a scoreless fourth, but San Diego added two in the fifth, as Paul Kunst singled and Adams hit his second home run off the day.

The Toreros picked up two more in the sixth on a Hunter Mercado-Hood two-run single, and another in the eighth on a single from Kunst off Schalch.

Justin Giovannoni tossed 1.1 innings of shutout ball out of the pen. Pacific starter Ricky Reynoso took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 3 innings of work, he falls to 3-5.

Paul Richan earned the win for San Diego to move to 4-0. He allowed one earned in seven innings on five hits with nine strikeouts. Pacific falls to 12-21 on the year, 2-13 in West Coast Conference play. San Diego improves to 25-9 overall, 12-3 in WCC action.

The Tigers will return home to face Fresno State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Klein Family Field.
