Gonzaga Evens Series with Pacific

­­­STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of the Pacific slipped in game two of the series to Gonzaga University, 5-2, on Saturday night.

The Tigers fall to 14-19 overall and 5-9 in conference action, while the Bulldogs improve to 17-16 on the season and 8-6 in conference.

After three scoreless innings, the Tigers tallied the first hit with James Free knocking a single to right field. Bradley Jekich hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Free to second. The next two at-bats loaded the bases with Lucas Halstead being walked and Michael Ricupito singled to shortstop.

With two outs, Kevin Sandri stepped up and singled to left field to score Halstead and Free to give the Orange and Black for a 2-0 lead.

However, in the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs scored three runs that was capped off by a two-run home run hit by Austin Pinorini.

From there, Gonzaga scored two more in the ninth to take the 5-2 victory.

The Tigers tallied six hits on the night to Gonzaga's seven.

Sandri lead the offense with two RBI and Free extended his hitting streak to 22 straight.

Ricky Reynoso had a shut out through six innings with six strikeouts. Justin Giovannoni was charged with the loss after pitching 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Alek Jacob picked up the win for the Bulldogs with 7.0 innings pitched and seven strikeouts, giving up just one run. Casey Legumina earned his ninth save of the season.

The Tigers close out the series against Gonzaga on Sunday, April 15 with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
