STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team will open 2017-18 regular-season play on Sunday night at Stanford. The Tigers will tip-off against the Cardinal at 7:00 p.m.
Stanford leads the all-time series against Pacific, 31-5, with the Cardinal has won the last 17 games in the series. The Cardinal are coming off of a solid victory over Cal Poly, defeating the Mustangs 78-62 at Maples Pavilion on Thursday night. Reid Travis led Stanford with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Reid was nine-for-16 from the field and seven-for-10 from the free throw line. Three other contributed double-digit points, including Isaac White with 17 points, Robert Cartwright wit 10 points and Dorian Pickens with 10 points.
Key returners for the Tigers this season are Anthony Townes and Jack Williams. Townes is among the top five returners in the WCC for his 2016 field goal pct. (.532) and offensive rebounds per game (2.7). Also based off of 2016 statistics, Townes enters at No. 8 for scoring average (10.3/game), No. 6 in defensive rebounds per game (4.5), and No. 7 in blocked shots per game (0.8). Jack Williams is the third-best returner in defensive rebounds per game, with an average of 4.6 per game last season.
The Tigers are coming off of a 84-49 win over Bethesda in Wednesday night's exhibition game at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Pacific boasted four double-figure scorers and shot 42.3 percent from the field. The 2017-18 squad also made 21-of-29 from the charity stripe.
