Diaz Advances To Round of 16 For Men's Tennis

San Francisco, Calif. - Pacific's Miguel Diaz advanced to the Round of 16 in men's singles at the Battle In The Bay Classic at California Tennis Club Friday.

In men's singles, Miguel Diaz swept Boise State's Brian Tran, 7-5, 6-1, in the round of 32. Diaz received a bye in the Round of 64 and will take on seventh-seed Brandon Holt of Southern Cal on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Earlier, in the round of 64, Jose Chamba was topped by Oliver Poysti of USF, 6-2, 7-6 while Gabriel Sidney of Pepperdine knocked off Kumar Adavelly 6-1, 6-4, and Tadiwa Chinamo had to resign mid-match due to injury against Kyle Butters of Boise St.

Chamba will face Dane Esses of Pepperdine in consolation play on Saturday, with Adavally meeting James Wade of UC Davis at 12:30 p.m.
 
In men's doubles Chinamo & Diaz dropped the 8-4 decision to Dominic Barretto & Gunther Matta of California. Adavelly & Chamba, who received a first round bye, will take on the Cal duo of Bjorn Hoffmann & Florian Lakat in the Round of 16.
