Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team posted seven victories Thursday at the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by Cal. Jose Chamba and Miguel Diaz advanced to the singles Round of 32, while all three doubles tandems moved on to the Round of 32.
In singles Round of 128 play, Chamba (seeded 17th) defeated Oliver Poysti of San Francisco, 7-6 (8), 6-1, while Tadiwa Chinamo prevailed in three sets over Eastern Washington's Victor Pereira, 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4. Alex Giannini also advanced with a straight-set win over EWU's Luke Ness, 6-4, 6-2.
Nathan Hampton fell to Stanford's William Geneson, 6-1, 6-0, while Ross Watson was topped by Samuel Feit of Gonzaga, 6-3, 6-3. Lance Ngo battled back to force a third set against Santa Clara's Kamran Khan, but Khan advanced, 7-5, 2-6, 6-0.
In the Round of 32, Chamba swept David Goulak of UC Davis, 6-1, 6-2, while Diaz downed Roy Lederman of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3.
Chinamo fell to fifth-seeded Filip Bergevi of California, 6-1, 6-2 and Giannini battled second-seeded David Wilczynski of Stanford, but was topped, 6-3, 6-3.
In Doubles play, Diaz & Watson prevailed in a tie-breaker over Stanford's duo of Brandon Sutter & Michael Genender, 8-7 (6). Hampton & Chinamo teamed to down EWU's Luke Ness & Scott Paz, 8-5.
Giannini & Chamba, seeded fifth in doubles, had a bye to the Round of 32 and will face Rob Dula & Victor Pereira of Eastern Washington.
