STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team fell to Santa Clara, 4-3 in a back and forth match Friday at Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.  Tadiwa Chinamo, Nathan Hampton, and Alex Giannini all posted wins for the Tigers with Chinamo and Akram El Sallaly also earning a doubles win for the second time this week.   

In doubles action, Ross Watson and Miguel Diaz went down first as they were defeated 6-2 by Santa Clara's Robert Seby and Jesus Barajas.  The Tigers were able to tie it up with Akram El Sallaly and Tadiwa Chinamo posting a 6-4 win over Connor Garnett and Vasileios Iliopoulos.  To secure the doubles point, Andrew Gu and Kamran Khan dispatched Alex Giannini and Lance Ngo 6-3.  

In singles, all six Tigers won their first set.  Chinamo had another strong match and quickly defeated Garnett 6-1, 6-2 to knot the match 1-1.  At sixth singles, Nathan Hampton dispatched Khan 6-4, 7-5 to give Pacific the lead.  Finishing third, Watson was defeated by Iliopoulos 7-5, 2-6, 4-6 to tie the score back up 2-2.  In first singles, Diaz battled back after being down 0-3 to win the first set 6-4.  Seby then took the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to secure the point and the lead for Santa Clara.  

With the Black and Orange down 3-2, the score was knotted yet again when Giannini defeated Gu in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3) to make it 3-3.  The match point was decided when Barajas took down El Sallaly in the final set of the match finisihing with a score of 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Santa Clara improves to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in West Coast Conference play while the Tigers fall to 8-13 overall and 1-4 in WCC action.

The Tigers travel south next Saturday to face San Diego for a 1:00 p.m. PT start.
