STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team is gearing up for their next tournament as they head south to Santa Barbara to compete in the UCSB Classic. The Tigers are sending Akram El Sallaly, Daniel Orlita, Ross Watson, Simon Solbas, Bernardo Oliveira and Nathan Hampton to the annual tournament.

"This is a high level tournament where the team gets to play a lot of matches versus players from outside of our region, which is great," said head coach Ryan Redondo. "October is a big month in terms of fall play and this is a great start to the month. Many of the best West Coast teams compete in this event and it's a fairly spread out tournament as well so the players really learn to manage themselves, which is crucial in our perspective of development for our team."

Last season, Watson and Hampton both traveled to Santa Barbara competing in both singles and doubles and look to improve from last year's Classic.

In the last outing for the Tigers, Hampton won the Flight C singles bracket at the Aggie Invite while Orlita, El Sallaly and Oliveira competed unattached from Pacific and took their shot at the $100,000 Stockton Men's Challenger, a USTA pro circuit event. Oliveira made it to the second round of qualifying, while Orlita and fellow teammate Johnathan Lieu went head-to-head with Lieu coming out on top to also advance to the second round. El Sallaly was awarded a spot in the main draw and faced last year's Challenger finalist, Noah Rubin. Rubin, ranked No. 192 in the world defeated El Sallaly, 6-2, 6-3.

Each Tiger will be battling in singles with the doubles pairs including El Sallaly and Oliveira, Watson and Solbas, and Orlita and Hampton.

The tournament will run from Friday, October 6 through Sunday, October 8.
