Stockton, Calif. - No. 1 Pacific rolled over No. 8 UC Irvine, 15-7, in the quarterfinals of the MPSF Men's Water Polo Tournament Friday morning at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. Balazs Erdelyi scored five goals for the Tigers.
Goran Tomasevic added four goals, while Balazs Szabo added a pair.
Pacific improves to 21-3, a program record for wins in the modern era. The Tigers advance to Saturday's semifinals against the winner of No. 4 USC and No. 5 Cal. The semifinal will get underway at 1:30 p.m.
The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Aleksandar Petrovic opened the scoring, and after Erdelyi's first goal, Kevin Oliveira found the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.
Then, Erdelyi ripped off three-straight goals to run the lead to 6-0 before Bojan Hrlec got the Anteaters on the board.
Tomasevic answered a goal by UC's Mitch Wise and scored again for an 8-2 lead. Sean Grady and Balazs Szabo also tallied as the Tigers stretched the margin to 10-3 at the half.
Pacific coasted home from there, matching Irvine's pair of third quarter goals as Tomasevic and Alex Obert scored.
Tomasevic tallied again in the fourth, as did Erdelyi and Szabo to cap the scoring.
Alex Malkis made 12 saves in goal for Pacific, before sitting out the final 2:36. Chris Hughes made one save in his 2:36 of action.
Mitch Wise led UC Irvine with four goals.
