#5 Tigers Offense Keeps Piling Up Goals Against San Jose State

DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 5 Pacific men's water polo team cruised to a 23-12 win over San Jose State to complete a 4-0 weekend at the Aggie Roundup Sunday.

Kale Ai, Luke Pavillard and Ben Stevenson each posted four goals. Luis Araya, Wyatt Barker and Derek Clappis each added two goals. Engin Ege Colak, Andrea De Nardi, Lucas Hastie, Eli Lule and Andres Schmidt all added a goal.

Goalie John Hedges posted 14 saves with three steals, while the Tigers defense recorded 17 total steals. The Tigers held San Jose State to 1-for-12 on the power-play.

Pacific opened to a 2-0 lead early in the first on goals from Stevenson. The Tigers scored three straight goals to stretch a 3-2 lead into a 6-2 advantage after the first quarter.

In the second, San Jose State scored twice to start the quarter before Ai and Schmidt answered back. Stevenson closed the quarter with his third for a 9-5 lead at halftime.

Pacific unloaded an eight-goal quarter in the third, as Ai, Araya, Pavillard and Stevenson finished for a 13-7 lead. Araya tallied again, before Barker, Colak and Ai finished off the period with the Tigers well in front, 17-9.

The Tigers doubled-up the Spartans in the fourth, 6-3, to settle on the final 23-12 margin.

Ai, Stevenson, Hedges and Devon Thumwood each handed out three assists, while De Nardi and Pavillard added two.

Jacob Mercep scored six of the Spartans 12 goals. The Spartans record falls to 3-3.

Pacific racked up 75 goals in the four games at the Aggie Roundup, and have scored 173 in nine games this season (19.22 per contest).
