STOCKTON, Calif. - The men's water polo team head up to Davis, Calif. this weekend for a three-match series against No. 18 California Baptist, No. 3 Cal, and No. 7 UC Santa Barbara.

Last Time Out:

  • The Tigers suffered an 11-8 loss to third-ranked Cal last Saturday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. Luke Pavillard led Pacific in scoring with his fifth straight hat trick of the year. Luis Araya also tallied a team-high 5 points to go along with a season-high four assists.

Scoring Ability:

  • The Orange and Black have not been shy as of late finding the back of the net on offense. For the year, Pacific has outscored their opponents by a margin of 85-39.
  • 12 Tiger players have registered more than one goal on the year with Pavillard leading the pack with 24 goals.
  • Pacific has punched in a goal in 19 of their 20 total periods for the season. 

Late Period Surges:

  • The Tigers have found their best opportunities to score following the first half accounting for 50 of their 85 goals in the third and fourth period. 
  • The Orange and Black put together a four-goal quarter in the third period and three goals in the fourth to pull themselves within reach and come back from a 5-0 deficit against No. 3 Cal Saturday night.   
  • Luke Pavillard has 15 second half goals for Pacific.

Freshman Spark:

  • The Tigers' freshman trio of Bogdon Djerkovic, Jonathan Cooper, and Aidan Jang continue to make an impact on both ends recording a combined nine goals, eights steals, and 29 shots on goal. 
  • Jang ranks fourth on the team and leads all freshman with four goals and four assists.
  • The three freshman have played in all five matches for Pacific.

Cage Time:

  • Sophomore keepers John Hedges and Alen Osmanovic continue to split time in the cage for the Tigers: Hedges with two starts and Osmanovic with three starts on the year.
  • Hedges holds a team-high .622 save percentage for Pacific. Osmanovic leads the two keepers with 36 total saves for the Orange and Black.
  • Hedges got the nod for the start in Pacific's matchup against California last Saturday recording one steal. Osmanovic finished the game for the Tigers registering a game-high 14 saves to go along with a pair of steals.  

 Tournament Trends:

  • The Tigers are 4-0 in tournament play this season, going undefeated to start out the year at the Brown Bruno Classic. 
  • Pacific went 12-1 in tournament friendly's this past season, it's only loss coming in a 9-8 heartbreaker against No. 4 UCLA.
  • The Orange and Black hold a 21-0 all-time record at the Aggie Shoutout. 



  • California Baptist went 2-2 in the Princeton Tournament last weekend, pulling off a 17-16 overtime thriller against St. Francis Brooklyn in their final match. 
  • Dominick Nevarez carried the Lancers in that game leading all scorers with eight goals. The redshirt junior has 19 goals on the year.
  • CBU is 0-4 when facing ranked competition this year, taking losses against No. 6 Long Beach State, No. 12 UC San Diego, No. 13 Princeton, and No. 18 George Washington. 
  • The Tigers are 12-0 in series matches against California Baptist.


  • The Golden Bears hold a well-deserved third place ranking after finishing last week 4-0 with three matches against top-15 ranked competition. 
  • MPSF Player of the Week Safak Simsek will be a key target for the Bears this weekend. The junior attacker had a 3 goal, four-assist performance in Cal's last match against the Tigers.
  • Three Bear players have totaled double digit goals for the season: Vassilis Tzavaras (16), Odysseas Masmanidis (14), and Simsek (10).
  • Saturday morning matchup presents the second meeting between the two teams, their first coming last Saturday at Chris Kjeldsen.


  • The Gauchos climbed their way up from the No. 10 rank to the No. 7 ranking this past weekend following four straight wins at the Inland Empire Classic.
  • Boris Janovic stands as an impact player for UCSB finishing Empire Classic with a team-best 16 goals on the weekend.
  • Last week's Co-GCC Player of the Week, sharing the honor with fellow Tiger Luke Pavillard, Janovic leads the team in points (28), shots (50), and drawn exclusions (8). 
  • Pacific is 3-2 in the last five meeting with the Gauchos, taking a 14-7 victory in last year's matchup on the road in Santa Barbara.
