Double Overtime Battle Pushed Tigers to Victory Over Spartans

LANSING, Mich. – A tough double overtime battle pushed the University of the Pacific field hockey team to victory over the Michigan State University Spartans, 2-1.

In Case You Missed It…

  • Less than 10 minutes into the first half, Gaby de Kock pushed the ball to Nthabi Maine for the stop to set Kriekie van Wyk up for the goal off the penalty corner to give Pacific a 1-0 lead over the Spartans.
  • In the final five minutes of the first, the game started getting physical as three green cards were handed out between both teams.
  • Early into the second half, the Spartans put a quick point on the board off a penalty corner to tie it at 1-1 and sent the game to overtime.
  • Both teams battled it out but the Tigers came out with the victory in double overtime, as Taylor Dempsey crossed a pass in front of the net to hit van Wyk for goal.

By the Numbers…

  • Tigers had 14 shots with eight landing on target with two goals and three assists.
  • Marlise van Tonder made 13 saves against six by Jade Arundell.
  • Van Wyk scored both goals for Pacific to claim the victory.
