LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tiger freshman Hailey Reed has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region Third Team, the NFCA announced Thursday morning. It is the second time in just as many years a Tiger has taken home All-West region honors after junior Rachel Sellers earned the award following last season. Reed also becomes the first Tiger freshman named to the All-West region since Kelsey Rodriguez in 2007.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams.
Reed took the league by storm in her first season at Pacific, ranking tied-for-third in the West Coast Conference with a .432 batting average in conference play. Her .324 overall season batting average led the team, and her 47 hits on the year were the second most on the Orange and Black. Reed ended the year with a 12-game hit streak, which is the longest such streak by a Tiger this season. The Topeka, Kan. native posted an impressive 2.11 regular season ERA in the circle, which was the lowest on the team. Earlier this week Reed earned WCC Co-Freshman of the Year recognition and became the first freshman to be named to the All-WCC First Team in program history.
