Koala was forced to medically redshirt her first year at Pacific after sustaining a knee injury in training just prior to the start of the season.
Prior School (George Mason):
Transferring to Pacific, Matsuoka came to the Tigers out of George Mason University where she spent her freshman season as a Libero for the Patriots. Playing in 21 matches her freshman season, Matsuoka was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team. Matsuoka finished her inaugural campaign second on the team in digs with 264 on the year as she posted a team-best 3.47 digs per set. In 13 of her 21 matches, Matsuoka hit the double-digit dig plateau while posting a season-high 29 digs against William & Mary on November 6, a mark which stands as the fourth-best single game total in George Mason program history.
A graduate of Kamehameha School in Kapalama, Matsuoka helped lead her team to the 2009 Hawaii state championship after earning Oceanic Cable Team Player Award honors in her only year playing varsity volleyball. In addition to volleyball, Matsuoka also excelled as a soccer and paddling team member during her athletic career.
Koalaanuheamaikalani Matsuoka is the daughter of Michelle and Scott Matsuoka. She is majoring in psychology in her second year at Pacific.
