SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Pacific women's volleyball team earned its first sweep of the season, defeating Long Beach State by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-16.
Pacific improves to 4-4, while Beach falls to 1-6.
Sophomore middle blocker Ashlyn Fleming continues to lead the Tigers' squad after smashing a match-high 12 kills. Fleming committed just one error in 16 swings for a .688 hitting percentage. In addition the San Jose product totaled two service aces and two blocks to bring her point total to 15 (5 points/set).
Janie Feldsher impressive start has been highlighted by her performances in the Tigers last two matches, hitting 8-0-13 (.615) against UC Santa Barbara last Saturday and 8-0-12 (.667) against Beach.
The Tigers outplayed the 49ers all over the court holding the edge in assists (44-25), digs (28-23), and blocks (11-8).
In all three sets Pacific secured early leads that eventually helped with the match victory. To start the match the Tigers took a 9-4 lead before forcing Long Beach to take their first of two timeouts. Beach clawed their way back and came back within a point at 19-18, but the Tigers won took the set after a 6-2 final run.
Pacific took control and held a comfortable lead in the remainder of the match, claiming a set two win by five points and the final set by nine points.
The Tigers will hit the court again tomorrow night when they take on tournament-host San Diego State at 7:00 pm.
